Concept
La mostra invita giovani artisti ad esporre materiali di recupero, ricavati dagli scarti della produzione industriale, con lo scopo di re-inventare il loro significato.
“Stop allo 048 degli oggetti” intende trattare argomenti sociali messi in disparte, in quell’angolo oscuro di mondo, lasciato alla deriva, a causa dell’eccessiva frenesia della società contemporanea.
A tal proposito si intende sollecitare la riflessione su argomenti generalmente rifiutati dalla società, quali barbonismo, de-personalizzazione, senilità, malattie mentali, le carceri, l’emarginazione, la prostituzione, la tossicodipendenza, lo sfruttamento minorile, ect…
La nostra società è ammalata non solo esteriormente: esempi sono gli accumuli di immondizia abbandonati in ogni angolo della città; è ammalata anche interiormente: consideriamo infatti tutti quei malesseri che la cattiva informazione censura e trasforma in tabù rifiutando ogni costruttivo approfondimento.
I latini affermavano “mens sana in corpore sano”: mente sana in un corpo sano.
La società potrebbe guarire diventando ecologica; rispettando e curando l’ambiente esterno che ci circonda, attraverso la raccolta differenziata e un consumo equosolidale; volgendo lo sguardo alla salvaguardia del nostro mondo interiore.
Il movente che sta alla radice del fenomeno del rifiuto è l’irresponsabilità.
Il problema che sta a monte è l’incapacità della gestione del consumismo.
La mostra invita a volgere lo sguardo a tali tematiche ed a proporre iniziative rivolte alla salvaguardia del nostro mondo interiore ed esteriore.
Le aree di interesse che coinvolgono il progetto sono quattro:
- ambiente: le associazioni ambientaliste partecipanti all’evento condurranno laboratori espressivi e video lezioni, a scolaresche, con l’obiettivo principale di sensibilizzare le scuole e le famiglie alla tematica dell’eco – sostenibilità.
- Artistico: attraverso l’adesione di artisti locali, nazionali ed internazionali.
Una giuria proveniente dal mondo artistico, curatori e storici dell’arte, si esprimerà gin merito alla selezione e partecipazione delle opere.
Il pubblico che verrà a visitare la mostra sarà invitato ad esprimere una preferenza per l’opera che considera la più congeniale alle tematiche del rifiuto e della malattia. Il numero maggiore di voti determinerà l’artista vincitore del premio “residenza artistica a Berlino”, della durata di due settimane. Alla fine dell’evento l’opera vincitrice sarà donata alla Provincia Regionale di Catania, come testimonianza all’evento.
- Salute: il concept dell’evento intende sensibilizzare il pubblico non solo sul tema dell’ eco – sostenibilità ma anche su quello del vivere sano. Verranno privilegiate opere che trattano temi che irritano l’opinione pubblica: tossicodipendenza, prostituzione, malattie mentali, emarginazione, carceri, consumismo, vivisezione ect..
L’artista è invitato a provocare lo spettatore attraverso la denuncia sociale, a proporre nuove soluzioni di prevenzione alla malattia per un vivere sano. Il pubblico sarà così sensibilizzato alle tematiche del risparmio energetico, del riciclo, dell’utilizzo del prodotto biologico; familiarizzerà con pratiche di arte terapia.
I temi proposti saranno rafforzati da seminari, conferenze e laboratori, che coinvolgeranno non solo le scolaresche (attraverso i laboratori didattici e le visite guidate alla mostra) ma anche gli adulti che, invitati a prendere parte alle conferenze, si troveranno a dialogare e a confrontarsi con esperti di settore sul tema dell’eco – sostenibilità e prevenzione alla salute.
- Comunicazione
“Stop allo 048 degli oggetti” intende creare una rete di comunicazione fra gli artisti partecipanti all’evento e gallerie, associazioni, fondazioni artistiche che collaboreranno per la realizzazione dell’evento.
L’obiettivo è quello di creare instaurare contatti fra artisti e galleristi/associazioni sia in Italia che all’estero, al fine di promuovere le opere degli artisti partecipanti.

Concept
The exhibition invites young artists to exhibit works based on material recovered from the waste products of industrial production, with the purpose of giving them new meaning.
“Stop allo 048 degli oggetti” also aims to deal with social topics that have fallen by the wayside in dark corners of the modern world, as a result of the excessive, frenetic rhythm of contemporary society.
In this regard the exhibition aims to promote the consideration of topics generally shunned by society, including homelessness, depersonalisation, senility, mental illnesses, prisons, marginalisation, prostitution, drug addiction, exploitation of minors, etc.
Our society is sick both on the exterior and within. Some examples of the first instance include the mountains of rubbish accumulating in every corner of some cities, and as far as interior illness is concerned, we need only consider the many kinds of negative social conditions that our failure to expose and examine in any depth censures and transforms into taboos.
The Ancient Romans believed in “mens sana in corpore sano”: a healthy mind in a healthy body.
Society could heal itself by becoming eco-friendly, and by respecting and looking after the outer world that surrounds us (through waste separation and a consumer outlook that abides by fair trading standards), and by aiming to safeguard our interior world.
A lack of responsibility is what lies at the root of the phenomenon of waste.
And the problem behind this is society’s inability to manage consumerism.
The exhibition invites artists to turn their attention to these topics and to propose initiatives that aim to safeguard our interior and exterior worlds.
The project involves four different areas of interest:
- Environment: the environmental associations participating in the event will hold information workshops and video lessons for schools with the main objective of making pupils and their families aware of themes regarding eco-sustainability.
- Art: through the participation of local, national and International artists.
A jury from the world of art, including art curators and historians, will evaluate and select the works to be exhibited.
Finally, there will be a second vote cast by the public visiting the exhibition. This will determine the work that most closely represents the themes of waste and disease. The artist responsible for composing the work with the highest number of votes will win a two-week artistic stay in Berlin. In exchange for this, the winning work will be donated to the Regional District of Catania, to commemorate the event.
- Health: the concept of the event aims to bring the public’s attention not only to the theme of eco-sustainability but also to that of a healthy lifestyle. Indeed, preference will be given to works dealing with subjects that usually generate criticism from public opinion: drug addiction, prostitution, mental illnesses, marginalisation, prisons, consumerism, vivisection, etc…
The artist is invited to use his works to both provoke viewers by criticising society and also to propose new preventative solutions with healthy living as their main objective. In this way, the aim is to make the public conscious of themes such as saving energy, recycling, the use of biological products, the use of art as therapy and prevention in general.
These themes will be backed up by seminars, conferences and workshops involving schools through the didactic workshops and guided tours of the event, and adults who will be invited to take part in the conferences, so finding an opportunity to dialogue and exchange views with experts in the field on the theme of eco-sustainability and preventative health initiatives.
- Communication
“Stop allo 048 degli oggetti” also aims to create a communication network linking the artists participating in the event and the art galleries, associations, and foundations that will lend their support in order to organise the event; this will take the form of the parties involved exchanging their contact details. The objective of this initiative is to create contacts between the participating artists and gallery owners/associations both in Italy and abroad, in order to promote the works produced by the former.
